This composition is dedicated to Duncan Honeybourne with thanks for the wonderful performances he has given of my compositions.
'The Upton Sketch Book' was inspired by a visit to this church and the modern sculpture that is fixed to the ceiling, which gave me the idea for this piece.
The scupture could have more than one meaning; The circle of life, the crown of thorns. Each movement starts with a long sustained note that could give an impression of a circle.
