Description
Written especially for the MANA concert. “War and Peace” is dedicated to MANA (musicians against nuclear armament) and Duncan Honeybourne. It is in three sections resembling war, protest and peace. The first section; War is dominated by a growling rumbling and angry atmosphere. This is followed by Protest and uprising, in which I have incorporated “La Marseillaisse” from the French Revolution. In the final section, I have taken a part of the theme from the choral section of the last movement from my 2nd symphony, ”Genesis”, in which I have set to music the last verse of psalm,10, which ends with the words, ‘So that mortal men may cause terror no more’.
